Suicide is the third leading cause of death in 13- to 19-year-olds, with approximately 6,000 suicide deaths per year. Each year, 15 percent of people with depression or bipolar disorder commit suicide.
The David Raymond Price Foundation was established in 2004 to raise awareness of depression and other mood disorders among adolescents. Founded by Janice and Paul Price, the Foundation was created in the name and memory of their son, David.
Through several organizations, the Foundation has underwritten educational forums specifically and individually structured for high school teens, parents and educators. We have also supported and helped advance adolescent depression screening programs.
Additionally, the Foundation has focused its efforts on depression education for teens in the high school classroom environment. To further this effort, we have worked with individual schools and the Adolescent Depression Awareness Program (ADAP) at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Since 2007, the expansion of this effort has been made possible by the underwriting of ADAP and the Foundation.
Today, this program is being taught in eight highly prestigious private schools in the Washington, D.C. area.
